Maine probate filing fees are set by a single STATEWIDE statutory schedule (18-C M.R.S. § 1-602), graduated by the value of the estate and identical in all 16 county probate courts. There is no county-by-county filing-fee variation and no value-based probate tax. The graduated petition/appointment fee (the same scale for informal or formal probate) is: $40 for an estate of $10,000 or less; $60 ($10,001 to $20,000); $75 ($20,001 to $30,000); $95 ($30,001 to $40,000); $125 ($40,001 to $50,000); $190 ($50,001 to $75,000); $250 ($75,001 to $100,000); $325 ($100,001 to $150,000); $375 ($150,001 to $200,000); $450 ($200,001 to $250,000); $500 ($250,001 to $300,000); $575 ($300,001 to $400,000); $625 ($400,001 to $500,000); $700 ($500,001 to $750,000); $750 ($750,001 to $1,000,000); $875 ($1,000,001 to $1,500,000); $950 ($1,500,001 to $2,000,000); and $1,200 for $2,000,001 to $2,500,000, then $250 more for each additional $500,000 (or part) of value above $2,500,000. These are fixed dollar amounts and are NOT inflation-adjusted. No single flat full-administration fee exists, so none is stored as a bare figure. Other statutory fees: filing a will for safekeeping (no probate) $15; a will probated without appointment $20; a certificate of appointment $10 (single) or $20 (double); record copies $1 per page (some counties charge $2 at the counter); and a $7 e-filing surcharge through the Maine Probate Courts. The small-estate affidavit under 18-C M.R.S. § 3-1201 is presented to the asset holder and carries no § 1-602 petition fee.
